A brave, talented woman motivated by noble ideals: Rosa Genoni was a pioneer in Italian fashion and an advocate for peace and human rights. Her life story is told in an exhibition in the rooms of Archivio di Stato di Milano. As a child, she worked in the ateliers of Milanese dressmakers. Soon enough, her determination and refined manual dexterity led to her becoming premier seamstress and then directress at Maison H. Haardt et Fils in Milan.
The display is divided into a fashion section and a sociopolitical section. Genoni not only revolutionised the language of fashion by taking inspiration from Renaissance painters like Sandro Botticelli and Pisanello, but also fought for women's emancipation, the right to education, and peace.
